Robbin Parish, M.A., CCC-SLP, is our Founding Head of The Parish School. Robbin Parish, a native Houstonian, attended the Kinkaid School and graduated from Lamar High School in 1961. She attended Sullins College in Virginia, The University of Texas at Austin, and received her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1965, Robbin was instrumental in developing a community based hearing and speech center in Corpus Christi, Texas, that was funded by the Nueces County Medical Society and the Junior League of Corpus Christi. In 1966, she entered graduate school at Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio.
Upon completion of a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology, she accepted a teaching assignment at the college and was responsible for the undergraduate academic and clinical program in Speech Language Pathology. In 1972, she returned to Houston and co-founded the Memorial City Speech, Hearing and Language Center. In one of the first private practices in Speech Pathology and Audiology in the state, Robbin was successful in opening more avenues for communicatively disabled adults and children to receive services.
As her private practice grew, she began to see the need for intensive services in a private school setting. Research had shown that early identification and intensive treatment of children exhibiting learning delays would help children succeed in the classroom. In 1983, in addition to her private practice, Robbin opened the doors of The Parish School. Robbin is a published author. She wrote a chapter in the text “Prospering In Private Practice”, and has written numerous articles on communication disorders, early identification and prevention and educational techniques and theory in professional and secular journals. Robbin is a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association where she served on the Ethical Practices Board and was an elected councilor to the Legislative Council of the Association for 15 years. Most recently this association awarded her one of the highest, national honors afforded a professional in this field; she was made a Fellow by the association for her outstanding service and contributions. Robbin is the Past President of the Council of State Association Presidents. She is also Past President of the Texas Speech Language Hearing Association, Past President of the Houston Area Association for Communication Disorders, and has served on the boards of The Orton Society and the Presbyterian School. She currently serves ont the State Board for Schools Attuned. She has been recognized by Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Outstanding Women of America, Houston’s Pioneer Women and Today’s Leaders, YWCA of Houston 1995 Outstanding Women (Education), Houston Young Lawyers Association (1996 Liberty Bell Award), and the Texas Speech and Hearing Association (Jack L. Bangs Lifetime Achievement Award) and awarded The Honors of The Texas Speech and Hearing Association. She is currently a member of the Junior League of Houston and St Martin’s Episcopal Church of Houston.  |
