Greetings Parish Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already more than a month into Summer 2021. Thankfully, things are beginning to return to normal, and we can enjoy time with family and friends. The value of spending time with loved ones has increased significantly over the last year, and I hope you are savoring every moment.
The Parish School’s administrative team has been busy planning for the 2021–22 school year, and we are very excited about what’s to come! In our elementary program, we will be adding a part-time reading specialist to join the two full-time reading specialists hired last school year. This will allow more intensive, one-on-one and/or small group intervention for our struggling readers. In addition, our elementary teachers will engage in campus-wide math professional development for our supplemental math curriculum—Math U See, and we will add a math specialist to provide ongoing support. Our early childhood students will enjoy the newly constructed Oak Creek Exploration Zone upon their return to campus in
August! We are so excited to see them grow, develop and thrive in the new outdoor learning space. And all of our students will benefit from the addition of a third social-emotional support specialist.
As we continue to move past the COVID pandemic and revert back toward normalcy, we will not offer a remote learning option for the 2021–22 school year; however, if there is a mandatory closure related to COVID, we will provide a remote classroom for impacted students during the quarantine period. In addition, we have revised many of our COVID policies, including optional mask wearing for students and staff. Please review the COVID policy updates, which will be available at www.parishschool.org/covid19
on July 19.
To continue to accommodate the increased academic rigor initiated last year and prevent learning loss, our elementary program hours will remain the same for 2021-22. School hours for primary, lower and upper elementary levels will be 8:00 AM–3:15 PM. There will be no change to the hours in early childhood.
I know you are eager to learn which classroom your child will be assigned to, and we are working on establishing academically, developmentally and socially appropriate groupings. Please be patient as we work through this process. Class placements will be communicated in mid-late July.
We are anxiously anticipating our 2021–22 students’ arrival! Student forms and the parent handbook acknowledgment will be completely digital again this year. You should have received an email to complete student forms on the Parish Portal
. These forms are required for your child to attend the first day of school and are due no later than Monday, August 2. If you have specific questions, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org
Additionally, enrollment for optional programs and Adventure Play (for children ages 6–12) are now open!
With a goal of being more inclusive, a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) survey to identify holiday celebrations and significant dates went out to families and staff at the end of the school year. The identified celebrations have now been added to the school calendar, but please know that they will not impact regular school holidays or closures. Any date in which student attendance is affected has been labeled on the calendar as either “No Student Attendance” or “School Closed.” To view or subscribe to the school calendar, visit www.parishschool.org/school-calendar.
Please note that The Parish School is closed July 5–31, and The Carruth Center is open with limited services throughout the month of July. Campus officially reopens Monday, August 2. I am eager to get back to some semblance of normal teaching and learning this fall, and I’m sure our students feel the same way. Just the thought of seeing their smiling faces walking across campus again warms my heart. Looking forward to a great year!
